An exhibition of drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci at a Hull art gallery has been seen by more than 5,000 visitors in its first week.

The Ferens Art Gallery is the only one in the north of England to host 10 rare drawings by the world famous artist.

The drawings come from the Queen’s Royal Collection and include anatomical studies and sketches of landscapes.

Patricia O’Brien, from Hull, who was the 5,000th visitor said seeing the works was a “magical experience”.

Councillor Terry Geraghty, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “We hope the popularity of this exhibition continues.

“Its resounding success to date can only help us acquire highly sought-after artists and exhibitions to the city in the future.”

The drawings are on show at the Ferens Art Gallery until 20 January.
