Taxpayers don't fund Kane, Gillard says

skynews

Prime Minister Julia Gillard says taxpayers are not covering the cost of her partner Tim Mathieson’s son, who is holidaying in Cambodia.

Kane Mathieson, 32, joined Ms Gillard and Mr Mathieson on one official event on Monday – paying respects to the late King Sihanouk, who is lying in state in Phnom Penh – ahead of the East Asia Summit.

But Ms Gillard said Kane was on a ‘private visit’ to Cambodia.

‘He’s been here for some time. Of course, because Tim is here in Cambodia and he is taking the opportunity to catch up with his son,’ she said.

‘He is on a private visit. He did not travel with us.’

She said Kane also had his own accommodation.

The prime minister and Mr Mathieson are staying at the historic Raffles Hotel in Phnom Penh.
