Court defers bail pleas of Zee News editors to December 3

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday has deferred the bail hearing of two Zee News editors till December 3. The two Zee editors were arrested on charges of trying to extort Rs 100 crore from Congress MP Naveen Jindal’s firm.

Zee News editor Sudhir Chaudhary and Zee Business editor Samir Ahluwalia, who are currently lodged in Tihar jail, were sent to Tihar jail till December 14 by Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Rao after police informed the court that accused were not required for further custodial interrogration.

Sudhir Chaudhary and Zee Business editor Samir Ahluwalia were arrested on November 27 by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch in the case registered on a complaint by Jindal Steel Power Limited (JSPL).

Jindal has alleged that Zee News tried to extort Rs. 100 crore in exchange for not airing unfavourable stories linking him and his group to the coal blocks allocation scam, which rocked the UPA government earlier this year.
