A Galaxy Poll has found Julia Gillard’s political fightback is stalling.
The poll, conducted for News Limited newspapers, says just one in five voters believes the prime minister was completely open and honest over her role in the Australian Workers Union scandal in the early 1990s, but a majority say it will not change their vote at the next election.
Among coalition voters, 81 per cent believe Ms Gillard should explain herself over the affair with a statement to Parliament, but only 36 per cent of Labor voters think think that is necessary.
The poll surveyed more than 1000 people across Australia on Thursday and Friday nights and also says if elections were held now, Tony Abbott would be elected prime minister.
It says the coalition is ahead with 54 per cent compared to Labor’s 46 per cent, on a two-party preferred basis.
